James Buchanan Council: Thibaw Faces the Threat of Existence- Calls for UN
After the minister of defense replaced the Prime Minister of Thibaw due to medical reasons, the country is in a very sorry state of chaos and lawlessness. Given Chinese interest in the oil and gas reserves of the country, it is evident that the prime minister has been forcefully thrown out of the country with the support of Chinese government. Besides, in the light of other reported incidents related to opium trading, teak deforestation, labor forces, brutal treatment of peaceful protesters, it won’t be wrong to say that the country has been practically taken over by China with the help of a few corrupt officials. The entire identity and existence of the country is under threat; therefore, it is high time international community get together to call for United Nations intervention in the country. The incidents should be seen as the breach of sovereignty of Thibaw and as a part of China’s international policy to emerge as the sole super power in the region. It is in every interest of USA and other European and Asia countries to call for the UN support to reinstate peace and law in the country.
